PAF is an acronym for Papillon Application Framework. This is a SOM/ DSOM

designed to provide the following features with the first final release
available in winter 2005/2006:

o runtime environment for new OS/2 applications with a powerful yet easy
to use GUI programmed in C or OREXX,
o intregrated development environment to program new applications solely
with ObjectREXX,
o 32-bit layered I/O architecture with dynamic hardware support layers
to support modern high speed serial busses with full IEEE 1394 and
USB 1.x/2.0 support,
o support for open (and de-facto) standards like JavaScript, HTML, CSS,
PGP, PNG, PDF, Zlib compression etc.
o own 32-bit IPv6 compliable TCP/IP stack with a new set of TCP/IP
applications like a new NFS support, FTP, POP3/IMAP4 servers etc.
o C2-level alike Installable Security Subsystem based on OS/2's SES
(Security Enabling Services) bringing real C2-level security to an OS/2
system, including server and network security, logon services,
encryption services etc.
o own Universal File System (UFS), full HPFS compatible, providing
URL to be used throughout the system to locate ressources of any type,
o own strict object oriented desktop system based on OS/2's Workplace
Shell (WPS),
o set of new base applications fully integrated into the new desktop as new
document classes,
o own document/ part concept similair to that you propably know from the
OpenDoc approach but tailored to the new user interface and the
architecture of OS/2,
o multimedia extensions based on MMPM/2 including support for MP3 and
MPEG-2, a software DVD player etc.
